Lifeguard & Retail — Being present.
Some jobs place attention at the center of every shift. Sometimes that means watching an entire space; sometimes, understanding what the person in front of you needs. Two different settings, each with its own responsibilities and preparation.
Lifeguard
Water surveillance, prevention and response according to the role’s training. Swimming skills and specific training are required; applicable assessments and certification are confirmed with the sponsor and employer.
Retail
Listening, guiding customers and supporting store operations. English communication, attention to detail and readiness to learn the store’s procedures.

ARCO reviews them with you. Your Designated Sponsor approves the job before you start.
- The work
- Your role, location, dates, weekly hours and pay, in writing.
- Living there
- Where you will live, how you will get to work and what each will cost.
- Your season
- Up to four months during your university vacation, with support from your sponsor.
Program conditions
Pay must meet the applicable minimum wage and prevailing local wage. Your agreed hours appear in the offer.
The program excludes jobs with hours predominantly between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Your sponsor must contact you at least once a month.
Housing and transportation must be workable. If the employer provides them, review the costs and any wage deductions before accepting.
