A light for navigating what no manual can teach.
The ocean does not have to become smaller for you to cross it.
When everything is new, calm matters.
The details stop disappearing between shifts.
Your days begin to tell a story.
Not to write for you. To help you remember what you actually lived.
Carry it like an app.
A light for navigating what no manual can teach.
The Beacon is ARCO's web app for logging shifts, reviewing work and pay, keeping sponsor rhythm in view, and navigating your J-1 season with greater clarity.
Your cultural exchange can be beautiful, immense, and deeply transformative. It can also feel disorienting when everything is new. The Beacon does not remove the challenge. It illuminates the next stretch.
Living far from home takes you beyond your comfort zone. Much of the learning lives there: in the work, the language, the people, and the decisions no classroom can rehearse for you.
A lighthouse does not navigate for you. It helps you see clearly while you choose your course.
Log shifts and tips, keep dates and private notes, compare your record with each paystub, and find a route to help when something does not add up.
Open The Beacon and find one signal: what needs your attention today. Log a shift. Check a date. Save a note. Open a route to help. No noise.
Record each shift’s hours and tips, and keep a private note. When your paystub arrives, add its details and compare the stub’s gross pay with the estimate built from your record. The Beacon helps you identify what may be worth reviewing; it is not an official payroll calculator.
A shift becomes an entry. Entries become a record. That record helps you remember what happened, what to review, and what may be worth raising at your next check-in.
Your shifts, notes, dates, and paystubs form a record you can revisit. The Beacon organizes what you recorded; it does not invent what you felt or rewrite your voice.
The Beacon is currently an installable web app. You do not need to find it in the App Store: open it in Safari and add it to your Home Screen.
For now, the interface is in English. You can use The Beacon in the browser or install it; your record is stored on your device first.
The Beacon exists to help you hold onto the thread of what you lived, not to turn it into content for someone else. ARCO administers access when applicable; that does not turn your record into a public profile or an operational case file.
Your record belongs to you. It is not a public profile and does not exist to feed a social network.
On your device first. Your record is stored locally. With verified access, you can keep an account-linked recovery copy to restore it on another device.
A signal does not replace authority. For your program, employment, payroll, or emergencies, your sponsor and official resources remain the reference.
Check-ins, sponsor guidance, and routes to help appear where you need them. Remembering should not depend on memory alone. Asking for help should not depend on finding the right menu.
If something does not add up, Help → Send feedback lets you send us a note directly from the app.
Your season. Your records. One clear signal for the next step.
